Commerce Edge attains CIPS Approved Study Centre status – first in Africa!

Commerce Edge is the first CIPS study centre in Africa to be certified an 'Approved Study Centre'.

By achieving this milestone, Commerce Edge Academy has met the CIPS stringent accreditation requirements, thereby becoming the first study centre in Africa to attain the status. Before, Commerce Edge Academy was an international Registered Study centre, which the rest of the study centres are referred to as.

This was achieved due to the highly developed quality measures that ensure a high pass rate. Using the "Ripple Effect Concept", the students studying for their CIPS qualifications are at the core of everything that we do. Commerce Edge is now a "One-Stop-Shop", we assist students with their CIPS registration through to writing their exams at our various study centres in Johannesburg and East London.

Holding an 'Approved' certification from CIPS means Commerce Edge has proven that it provides high-quality course delivery and learner support along with appropriate facilities and resources.

Our 'Approved' status means we operate in a way that best supports students and surrounds them with systems to ensure their success in examinations. We are certified student-centric!

Commerce Edge students can be confident that they have a higher chance of success owed to the study centre’s systems and policies. As an Approved Study centre, we are now subject to regular systems and processes audit from CIPS. This provides the students studying through us to be guaranteed a return on their investment and confidence in our processes.

MTN | Rolls out managed procurement education solution across 21 countries and received recognition at the CIPS Annual Awards 2013

As part of its transformation to a world-class procurement organisation, MTN embarked on a programme to enable 145 of its procurement professionals to obtain internationally recognised Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) qualifications.  MTN engaged with Commerce Edge South Africa to provide a Tutor-Enabled Blended-Learning Online Solution (TEBLOS) throughout its entire international procurement organisation. This sophisticated approach to education provides learners with a tutor who is a personal member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS); classroom-based learning integrated with online learning and assessment, combined with corporate management information regarding learner progress.

Standard Bank | Powered by Commerce Edge South Africa, receives Procurement Award

In 2011, Standard Bank was awarded the Best People Development Initiative at the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Southern Africa Procurement Awards. Standard Bank Procurement was chosen for the award following its successful initiation of “Project Prologue” in early 2009, which brought about the re-design of procurement to be more relevant to business partners. Through addressing process, policy, organisation, technology and people, Project Prologue transformed Standard Bank’s transactional procurement environment into a strategic value enabler.  Partnered with Standard Bank, Commerce Edge South Africa played an instrumental role in enabling the development of the financial institution’s procurement competence through the provision of procurement education, training and mentoring including continued professional development.

Commerce Edge Academy achieves a high CIPS pass rate

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply examinations are written three times a year in May, July and November. For three years in a row, Commerce Edge Academy, a CIPS study centre, has achieved very high pass rate in all the units across the board. In the November 2013 examinations, the Academy set a new record of 79% average pass rate across all the units, a very high pass rate by the CIPS standards. The Academy has more than 650 CIPS students across Africa and the Middle East that are currently studying through TEBLOS, our student support system.

Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works

The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works embarked on a wide ranging, multi-year programme to re-engineer its Supply Chain function in order to align with the latest legislation and trends in world-class procurement. Commerce Edge was appointed as the lead consultant on this re-engineering exercise. On 1 April 2014, the new Accounting Officer (AO) system encapsulating these new policies, procedures and operating instructions was successfully issued. This comprehensive yet pioneering framework now forms the foundation for new organisational structures and enabling technology.

Eastern Cape Department of Health

National Treasury has a constitutional and national legislative mandate to manage public sector financial matters in SouthAfrica, including capacity development of public supply chain management (SCM) practitioners. The National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS III) recognises that the capacity in public sector lags far behind what is expected of it and there are serious skills and education gaps. It is important to note that this process is aligned to section 6(2)(d) of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA - Act No 1 of 1999) and in compliance with National Treasury’s comprehensive Capacity Development Strategy (CDS) for Public Financial Management .

The Eastern Cape Department of Health has taken major steps towards professionalising supply chain management. In 2013 Commerce Edge South Africa, aligned with CIPS, embarked on the delivery of education and training programmes, creating a more productive workforce to achieve its objectives and improve their ability to implement the SCM system with greater efficiency, consistency and effectiveness.

Nampak and Commerce Edge South Africa in partnership to raise the level of professionalism and competence in procurement

The launch of the Nampak Procurement Academy (NPA) highlights the commitment of Commerce Edge to delivering competence within the South African procurement environment.

The NPA was launched using a ‘holistic competence model approach’, focussing on academic qualifications, short-term skill requirements and personal attributes. The foundation began with a ‘customised assessment’ process, which identified and prioritised the key competencies that aligned with the roles and strategy of the business for 2014 and 2015. The success of the project has resulted in an extension of the scope of the services into the rest of Africa.

Well done to all involved!
